Watch the Video on Making a Latte or Mocha

Now we will learn the steps in making a latte, mocha or our favorite espresso based drinks. It is important to note that some of our Flavor combinations will be flavored latte’s (meaning they use espresso, milk, and flavored syrup), and some of our flavor combinations will be Flavored Mochas (meaning they use espresso, milk, chocolate sauce or powder and flavored syrup). This is important to note because any drink that is a mocha that will have chocolate sauce or powder, will need to have the chocolate sauce or powder melted by the espresso shot.

We prepare hot drinks and iced drinks slightly differently. So let’s first start by looking at the steps in preparing a hot latte or mocha.

Hot Latte or Mocha

  1. Start by pulling an espresso shot
  2. While your espresso shot is pulling, start steaming your milk
  3. While the milk is steaming, you or your bar hand can add flavor directly into the hot cup. All flavored syrup, chocolate sauce or chocolate powder will go directly into the cup.
  4. At this point your milk should be done steaming and your shot should be done pouring.
  5. Pour the hot shot of espresso into the cup with your syrup and chocolate
  6. If you are making a mocha with chocolate sauce or powder, be sure to mix the chocolate sauce or powder in with the espresso shot using a bar spoon. If you are making a latte with only syrup, this step is not necessary.
  7. Next, pour your steamed milk into your cup.
  8. You can add whip cream if the customer requests.

Next we’ll take a look at how to prepare the iced versions of the drinks.

Iced Latte or Mocha

  1. Start by pulling an espresso shot
  2. While your espresso shot is pulling, add ice to your cup. The ice should fill about 3/4 of the cup and be to the black ring on your cold cup.
  3. Fill the cup with milk to the top of the ice (black ring.) Be sure to leave room for your espresso shot.
  4. Add any syrup into the cup with your milk.
  5. At this point, your shot should be done pouring.
  6. If you are making a mocha, add the chocolate sauce or powder into the demitasse with the hot shot of espresso. Use a bar spoon to mix the chocolate sauce or powder into the hot shot. If you are making a flavored latte, this step is not necessary.
  7. Pour the shot of espresso over your milk.
  8. Use a bar spoon to mix the espresso shot in with the milk.
  9. Top with whip cream if requested.

Preparing our hot and iced espresso drinks in this way will ensure they are made as fast as possible with the best flavor possible.
